» Vida Wolter - July 6, 2006:

Following a 30 year career serving as a teacher in a number of different countries and situations, in 2003 I shifted gears and completed a very interesting 4 week segment of planning and preparation in Vernacular Media. During that month I was challenged by the presentation of a career media recordist, to use my varied experiences as a teacher. She spoke of the need for someone to search and evaluate Christian materials for children that would be suitable for cross-cultural adaptation.

Although I felt excited about this new challenge, I did not initially understand how my work would be made available to those working with children overseas. Working with computers has proved a real struggle for me but I prayed that my work would somehow be useful and went forward in faith. Now it makes sense!

When I started putting the information and reviews into the Spark site I finally realized that my prayers had been answered! For here we have a modern method of reaching many. Spark focus is not on a single media method such as a video, but rather presents many different options. This way each individual searching for Christian media that would be culturally appropriate for a particular people group, can pick and choose, depending upon the key factors of that group. » Nancy Schaefer - February 17, 2006: Remove

Just took a quick look and was impressed. I hope we can increase our internet access time (which we are hoping to do) and make it available to Peter Awane (Farefare SIU Coordinator) and Timothy Zieme (Birifor SIU Coordinator). Both are innovative and are always looking for new ideas. Thanks for introducing us to this site.

The stuff on Spark is such good material, I'm going to recommend several pages to friends here in the US. One is a S.S. teacher of 2nd/3rd graders who was asking for ideas & materials for teaching about Bibleless Peoples. The other is a Church Children's Education Director, who annually writes an 8 week missions learning curriculum for their church. I know your focus is toward other cultures and perhaps preliterate folks. But, I think your principles, listed resources and examples will be useful to their needs too.

Also, while I've not read everything on your site, two resource sources came to mind. Have you considered including reference to two organizations that might have useful media in non-English and/or visual only format:

Multi-Language Media (MLM) www.multilanguage.com Bible Visuals http://www.biblevisuals.org/missions.asp

Probably you are familiar with them...but just in case they might be helpful to y'all..
