Description

The Rode D-PowerPlug is a unit that looks very much like the connector on an XLR cable. It plugs into the XLR connector of a mixer, and the cable plugs into the other end of the cylinder. It looks and operates very simply. It will boost a signal very well, or maintain a good signal over a long cable run.

Considerations

• Many times there is a need for a longer microphone cable, but the signal deteriorates over the distance. This cable booster will help maintain a good signal. The Rode website claims the D-PowerPlug can drive cables in excess of 100 m with negligible loss of signal quality or power.
• For a different method of boosting line strength, see MXL iBooster.

Evaluation

We found the Rode D-PowerPlug very satisfactory in use, and audio comparable to the same microphone on a shorter cable. However, you need phantom 48v power capability to power it in the mixer. (Evaluation by VMS personnel.)
