Introduction

In 1986, the JESUS Film video became available in Rabinal Achi (ACR), a Quichean language, related to QUH.

What Was Done

We showed it at the end of a church service, expecting that most people wouldn’t understand it.

Results

We were surprised at the response. The people listened carefully to the whole video. When asked how much they had understood of the video, some responded that they had understood everything (doubtful). Most said that they had understood “a lot” or “most” of what was said.

All were excited to hear the video in “lengua” – a Mayan language.

QUH and ACR are both in the Eastern Quichean language family so are fairly closely related, though considered separate languages.
