Using Scripture for filmstrip scripts is an effective way to present Bible stories.

Introduction

The RADMAR 35 mm filmstrip series covers the Old Testament through the life of Christ and the early church. Each of the 80 stories contains about 20 pictures with a simple narrative. Most of the scripts are direct Bible quotations, which eliminates the need for translation in language groups having a Bible. For example, the script for the first filmstrip, “Creation,” is “In the beginning, long, long ago,” taken from Genesis 1.

• If the language group has their own Bible, translation is unnecessary as most scripts are direct Scripture quotations.

• One problem is that some of the stories include a map or other extra-biblical information.

What Was Done

The filmstrips with Scripture scripts were used at an employee/helper Bible study in the southern Philippines. While the pastor pushed the slides through the projector, his assigned helper read from the Cebuano Bible and cued the pastor when to proceed to the next frame. Afterward, a devotional or life application lesson could be given based on the Bible story.

Results

One pastor borrowed the projector and stories for a year to use as part of his church's outreach program. A few other translators have borrowed the second set to teach national workers how to show stories using the filmstrips. Many people in the area have heard the gospel through this method.

Helpful Information from the Author

Script readers should be instructed not to add extra details to the Scripture quotations. This insures accuracy, saves power, and prevents the projector's bulb from overheating.

Also, the original script must be used for the story “Childhood of Jesus” as there are no verses to support it.
