Choice of Speakers
From SPARK
Before recording, the recordist must give instructions to the sponsors/language teams. They need to decide who is most suitable to be a speaker. Speakers are an important part of how the message will be received.
Who should select speakers?
- Committee
- Local committee of believers
- Committee comprised of all denominations whenever possible
- Translator
Considerations for selecting speakers
- Christian testimony
- Do they demonstrate Christian character in their community
- Acceptable throughout the area
- Status
- Acceptable to target audience
- Chosen according to authority structure so that traditional lines are not violated.
- Age
- Younger men may not have an understanding of the deeper meaning words in the language.
- It might not be culturally appropriate for young men to teach older ones. (Tendency is to select younger men because they speak more clearly, are alert, etc.)
- Speaking ability
- Voice quality
- Sincerity
- Expression
- Clear enunciation and diction
- Tempo, phrasing, volume
Number of speakers used
Include vatrious denominations and dialects when possible or appropriate.
