Description

A Chosen Friend is a flipchart story of real mission work in Mexico. Indian culture, superstitions, and opposition to receiving God's message of love are seen through the eyes of Rosa, an Aztec Indian. This story has five chapters:

  • Chapter one has six pictures and tells about God's love for all people. Some people do not want to hear about, or accept God's love. Rosa's parents are followers of Jesus. They want to send Rosa to a boarding school. Her grandmother is against it. Rosa is afraid to go.
  • Chapter two has five pictures. It tells about mission schools teaching national children. Rosa attends boarding school and likes to learn new things.
  • Chapter three has seven pictures. This chapter teaches that when a person follows Jesus, they will never be alone. They will always have a friend with them. Rosa decides to follow Jesus. Rosa reads her Bible and learns to trust God at all times.
  • Chapter four has six pictures. This chapter teaches that followers of Jesus need to study God's message of love. They must share this good news with others. Rosa attends Bible school for five years to learn how to share the good news of Jesus.
  • Chapter five has six pictures. This chapter explains that all believers need to serve God by telling others the good news of Jesus. In this final chapter Rosa finishes her training and learns that Jesus is her best friend. She learns that Jesus will guide and protect her at all times.

Considerations

  • The story has twenty-five pictures. The size is 10”X 14”.
  • Each chapter has a Bible verse to remember.
  • The script for the story tells the meaning of new words used in the story. It also has a guide for pronouncing these words.
  • There are extra activities at the end of the story that might be helpful.
  • This story has some color but not full color in the pictures.

Limitations

  • The story refers to some witchcraft activities.
  • The story makes some negative comments about Roman Catholics.

Guidelines for Use

  • This story could be used as a Sunday School lesson.
  • It could be used to help children learn geography of foreign places.
  • The story might be used at a camp or Bible club.
  • The story could be recorded on audio cassette to be used with the flipchart pictures.
  • The story could be used as a radio script.
  • The pictures could be made into a filmstrip and used with an audio cassette or the script.
